Producing a brand book for Babo made me aware of how companies intend to deliver their messages to the clients. Tone of voice was something new I had learnt and how the company ‘talks’, whether it is a fun tone of voice for Skittles and Skype or a more formal tone like Adobe. I enjoyed creating a brand book for Babo, it made me really think about how vital it is to get the message right which reflects the brand. It was interesting to experiment with different layouts and folds, how we portray our brand. Initially Babo reminded me of roundness, softness, fun, floating so I decided to go with the fold of a ornament ball. I got inspired by a tutorial on origami ornaments which were hung from the ceiling and thought it would be the perfect idea to use this idea for my book.
The ornament ball is constituted of 20 flower shaped cut outs which were all slit at the sides and slotted together cleverly to produce a sphere. After feedback from my tutors I realised that although the idea was creative, it would be difficult to print on the 50 circle faces and the typography just wouldn’t work on a circular space so I had to change my idea.
I went along with the idea of a concertina fold, it complimented well with my value ‘playful’ as it requires the reader to pull along the page as it is a very long fold. The book is made up of 24 pages, 12 on each side. I printed on gloss paper keeping in mind that I had to use relatively thin paper so that when it is creased, it would look straight.
I kept the graphics and tone of voice bright cheerful, reminiscent of my brand values optimistic, playful and clumsy. Overall I am satisfied with the design, it was how I visualised it. The logo I had improved to appear more 3d from the previous, more shiny and floating like balloons. If I could improve I would perhaps create a more fun and soft cover to match the brand.
